Enabling Small to Medium-Sized Mitigation Projects to Succeed

The Golden State Land Conservancy (GSLC) enables small to medium-sized mitigation projects to move forward by working directly with project proponents and their consultants, who face specific regulatory mitigation requirements. GSLC helps develop and establish conservation easements and their related endowments, which are designed to maintain natural resource values on the property in perpetuity. GSLC has been a statewide land trust for over 23 years. Within that time, GSLC has played the role of both conservator and/or land manager. GSLC has 33 mitigation projects that preserve and protect lands with significant habitat values as required by various federal, state, and local agencies.

Land Trust Accreditation Commission

GSLC is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission as of February 2020. GSLC is now one of over 450 land trusts nationwide whose standards and practices have been rigorously examined by this independent commission of the Land Trust Alliance. GSLC now meets the requirements of the United States Fish & Wildlife Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to hold easements on mitigation preserves and habitat restoration areas. Landowners looking for assurance that their property will be protected in perpetuity can be confident that GSLC follows the highest financial and ethical standards of the land trust profession.

CDFW Accredited

GSLC has been repeatedly approved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to hold mitigation lands. CDFW requires GSLC to apply for permission on a project-by-project basis. GSLC has never been refused CDFW permission to hold mitigation lands among the many projects it has applied for.
