Conservator Role
The conservator’s role is to hold a conservation easement, by monitoring its compliance and enforcing its restrictions in perpetuity. In a typical mitigation project there may be a singular role for a conservator when no habitat or water resource/wetlands restrictions exist. This usually requires the creation of a donor-restricted endowment by the project proponent, which is designed to support GSLC’s ongoing monitoring and enforcement of the easement’s restrictions.
Meeting Needs
GSLC is a conservator to several projects that either do not have a land manager component or where the land manager is another entity, such as a homeowners association (HOA), a municipality, an environmental services agency, etc. Sometimes the Land Manager works under GSLC’s control as the land trust is responsible for the project’s overall success or sometimes the Land Manager is independent of GSLC. Whatever role is called for, GSLC is ready to meet the project’s needs.
